HomeBudget ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly: your email address and hashed password when you register. When you link a bank account via Plaid, we receive read-only access to account balances, transaction history, and account metadata. We do not receive or store your bank login credentials — those are handled exclusively by Plaid's secure infrastructure.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your financial data is used solely to provide HomeBudget's features: displaying balances, tracking transactions, and tracking budgets. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your financial data for advertising. Aggregate, anonymized data may be used to improve the service.
3. Plaid Integration
HomeBudget uses Plaid Technologies, Inc. to connect to your financial institutions. By linking a bank account, you agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy (https://plaid.com/legal/). Plaid provides us with a secure token — we never see your bank username or password. You can revoke Plaid's access at any time in your bank's authorized apps section or via the Settings page.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in Supabase, a SOC 2 Type II certified infrastructure provider. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We use row-level security (RLS) so your data is only accessible to you. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plaintext.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and transaction data for as long as your account is active. You can delete all your data or your account at any time via the Settings page. Upon account deletion, all personal information is permanently removed from our databases within 30 days.
6. Cookies
HomeBudget uses minimal cookies: only a session token to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to access, export, or delete your data at any time. To request a data export or exercise any privacy rights, contact us at the email below. If you are in the EU or California, additional rights under GDPR or CCPA may apply.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. Significant changes will be communicated via email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
